The Hall’s Center approach to Optimal health is a unique blending of Traditional and so called Alternative medicine. All aspects of the patient are treated mind, body, and spirit. Which brings me to the topic at hand, Yoga and Menopause.
How can something that seems like just another in a long line of Western “exercise” fads help women through the “suffering” of menopause? Yoga is an Eastern scientific approach to treating the individual through its natural human development. There is extensive scientific data, and since it’s introduction to the West even more research is being done, to validate it’s healing efficacy. Ayurvedic medicine, India’s “traditional medicine” prescribes yoga postures, pranayama (breath work) and meditation techniques as an integral part of it’s healing practice. The Hall Center’s mix of the best Western healing modalities and yoga creates powerful nectar for transformation.
From about the late 40’s into her 50’s, woman’s ovaries the glands that regulate fertility and the menstrual cycle reduce their production of estrogen and progesterone. Menstruation becomes irregular then finally stops. Menopause is a natural stage in a woman’s life, an adventure into self-realization. A revelation of who she really is and the possibilities of who she can become. The picture of menopause as a woman’s frightful descent through a perilous, disease riddled nether region of purgatory, is over! There is Hope, as you can tell from our recent elections. There is comfort and joy ahead. Yes we can! The symptoms of menopause are hot flashes, mood swings, depression, night sweats, urinary problems, vaginal dryness, aching joints, reduced libido, weight gain, and general lack of fun.
The adrenals and the kidneys can replenish the decrease in estrogen from the ovaries, if they have not been exhausted prematurely by stress. Spinal twists and soft back bending can be used to stimulate the adrenals and kidneys in conjunction with the “Pure Within Detox Program”. During the period of low estrogen and progesterone, normal levels can be achieved by taking bio-identical hormones. This approach along with a consistent yoga practice decreases the risk of osteoporosis. If nothing is done, the bones become brittle and weak because of the imbalance between the bone building cells (osteoblasts) and the bone destroying cells (osteoclasts). The muscular system also loses strength and stamina and the joints become stiff and painful. Again a yoga practice along with the Premier program or the 21 days to feel 21 could be the healing experience for you. Mood swings, depression, listlessness can be managed with guided meditation, pranayama, (breath work), in addition to a strong yoga practice, so you can live a fully embodied life again.
Hot flashes are eliminated by cooling yoga postures sarvangasana (supported shoulder stand), viparita karani (legs up the wall) etc.
Night sweats create a disturbance in your sleeping pattern. Restorative yoga postures are prescribed so some measure of rest can be achieved. There are a multitude of ways yoga and the Hall Center’s commitment to health can help ease you through this wonderful time of rediscovery and inevitable bliss.
Blessings On your Journey
