What is MSA? Meridian Stress Assessment uses a Class II medical device to measure the amount of electricity flow at specific acupuncture points.

How does this help the patient? Each acu-point is measured on a scale from 0 to 100 (Voll scale). High values indicate potential inflammation of the associated meridian, organ or tissue and low values indicate potential degeneration. This information is gathered in an efficient (about 30 minutes) and non-invasive manner and contributes to the overall picture of patient health. Together with laboratory testing, patient intake questionnaire, traditional Oriental tongue and pulse diagnosis and physical examination, MSA provides important information to support exceptional patient care.

How does MSA benefit the practitioner? Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine have gained tremendous popularity in the past 20 years, not only as alternative treatments, but also as complementary diagnosis and treatment modalities in many Western medical offices. Basing a diagnosis on the evaluation of Qi (vital energy) using the subjective means of tongue and pulse analysis is subjective. MSA translates the Qi of Oriental Medicine into the western paradigm of resistance to the flow of electricity, which it reads objectively. The simple 0 to 100 scale helps western practitioners (and patients) easily access the 2500 year old empirically proven system of Oriental medicine and provides acupuncturists with another perspective for evaluation of patient health.

What else can MSA do? In the 1950s a German medical doctor, Dr. Reinhart Voll, first began measuring and charting the ancient acupuncture points with a sensitive meter. When giving a demonstration, Dr. Voll measured a Heart point on one of his patients known to have heart disease and found the measurement to be oddly normal. Having tested this patient in the recent past and knowing his history Dr. Voll found it very odd that the patient was now testing normal. After some investigation Dr. Voll found that this patient was carrying his heart remedy in his pocket. When the patient was tested again without the remedy in his proximity the point tested weak, showing its true condition. In this manner the measurement of electricity flow at the acupuncture points has been found to change value in response to remedies which may aid the patient's health, as well as, those items (food, chemical, etc.) which disrupt the body's sensitive electrical system.

The Hall Center and resident acupuncturist Tim Walsh are offering a 30 minute initial MSA evaluation for $50, normally $95.
